Carl
"Pocket" Johnson
San Jose
figure rollerskating champion |
Aria Curzon
Sierra Madre, CA
... cute. |
Jeff Charles
Kentfield, CA
sales associate |
Aria didn't mean to press her lock
out... Unfortunately, she did. But she's in the lead going into
our first Double Camouflage in, what else, round 1...
SCANEORWORBEATNICK
It might be made with "chilly" powder.
Carl gets 30 from the SNOWBANK. Now
comes the doubler. He's got 10 to figure this out...
SNOWBANK
A snow-colored bird
You've never seen a snow-colored
SWAN, Carl?
And after a puzzle that NO ONE
gets, even when the answer is fully-revealed, Carl leads,
60-40-20.
Round 2 belongs to Jeff when they
go into this Double Camouflage:
CASHEDWISENAG
AGUELIMP
It can go from stick to sticky in 3.5 seconds
Carl fires with CHEWING GUM for 160. Can he get
the other 160 on this...
CHEWINGGUM
Friend
Carl's CHUMs are watching in disbelief, but
Carl's nipping at Jeff's heels with 310 to Jeff's 330. Aria... still cute...
still trailing with 230.
Aria comes roaring back in round 3 as we take a
look at this...
LOWSWINGING
LOWFATSHELL
CANTIPMIDEAST
"All the news that's fit to print"
It's the SIGN OF THE TIMES for Carl, as he scores
the trifecta. Time to double up and catch up with Aria.
SIGNOFTHETIMES
"Statue"-esque Travelocity spokesperson
Anyone who's ever watched The Amazing Race knows
of the roaming GNOME. No double, but he gets 480. Not enough to catch Aria, who
wins with 580.
Final Camouflage...
UNSEKRING - It's got you covered: SKIN
HIDWIVEORACLE - Ring toss?: DIVORCE
BAGELBLOWDOWN - Artificial animal: BALLOON
GROUNDZEROCLAM - The bucks start here: ... and that's time. She misses the
RODEO, but gets three for...
BAGSUNITED
Six-foot soldier
_AGSUN_T_D
Aria gets $750, but no five Gs. All the little
ANTs are marching.

First up in the cab are Ian, Phillip &
Kaylee, going to the Public Theater. Red Light Challenge gets them
$600. They can take it or go for one more question... One more
question it is! Video Bonus: the world's most northernmost
non-human primates, snow monkeys live in a volcanic region of what
country? They go with Siberia... Not even a country. It's Japan.
Next on Ben's run is Sara as she
goes to 6th & West 3rd. She gets her health-insurance payment in
the form of $400. She too sticks around for the Video Bonus. The
question: Africa's answer to the prairie or the pampas, what is
the term for these subtropical grasslands? "I'm pretty sure it's
the savanna..." I'm pretty sure she's $800 richer.
Finally, Josh Purst & Vince Passaro
head off to 68th & Lex. They're writers. They could use the money.
They make $700 on their trip. They... walk. |

Zach Baker
Downey, CA
computer programmer
$44,400, two days |
Amy Fuller
orig. from Oakland, OR
medical missions coordinator |
Ben Taylor
orig. from Rockford, IL
student |
The winner of today's match is going to have a
LONG break, because next week begins something new, the Summer Games Teen
Tournament, and then after that is the customary summer recess until the new
season begins September 10.
Zach starts with $200 States' Most Populous
Cities, leading at the TV time out, with $3200 against Ben's $2400 and Amy's
$1400.
Ben finds the Daily Double under $600
Pleistocene Stealer. He wants a true Daily Double. We'll give it to him. For
$6800 or nothing... if you had a smilodon smiling down on you, you were in
trouble with one of these Pleistocene cats. "What is a saber-tooth tiger?"
Right for $6800! But the lead would be short-lived as Zach moves into it with
$8200 against Ben, with $7600. Amy has $3000 and first pickings in Double
Jeopardy!
... with $400 Pop Culture: 1999, with Ben finding the first Daily Double under $800
The Restoration.
He wagers $3400 on this: after John Milton died in 1674, his widow sold all the
rights to this work for a paltry 8 pounds. "What is 'Paradise Lost'?"
Correct for $13,000! Zach finds the second Daily Double under $1600 New York
Times Week in Review. He fronts $4000 on this: on Thurs., Jan. 11, 2007 the
Times reported the first public US military action in this African nation since
1994. "What is ..." Somalia. He drops to $5800. He ends the round with $9000 to
Amy's $5000. But the game belongs to Ben with $21,800.
Final Jeopardy! in "Sports":
among its 13 founding members in 1950 were Louise Suggs, Patty Berg & Babe
Zaharias. Correct response: what is the LPGA?
Amy's right. Zach's right. Ben... winner. He
takes $25,599. And we'll see him September 10.
