Rebecca's road to five (and $100,000) goes through...

FOUR DAY CHAMPION
Rebecca Rider

Fresh Meadows, NY
office supply sales assistant
$
86,600
Tara Curcio
Medford, NJ
technical project manager
Scott Brill
Shelton, CT
public library assistant

Rebecca starts with $200 North Carolina. At the TV timeout, Tara and Rebecca are locked into each other with $3400 and $3200 respectively. Scott is $400 down.

Rebecca finds the Daily Double under $1000 Alphanumeric Terms. "I've always wanted to say this..." SHE'S GOING FOR IT! The clue: its peak reaches 28,250 feet & is often surrounded by clouds. "What is K2?" That... would've been right, but K6 zeroes her out. She recovers $2800, but with Tara on $4800 and Scott at $3600, the champion will get the first clue in Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 No. 1 Hits in Other Words. Tara finds the first Daily Double under $2000 National Flowers. She fronts $3000 on this: this country loves its Linnaea borealis, named after a native son. "What is Poland?" No, it's Sweden, dropping her to $3800. Second Daily Double goes unclaimed, as Rebecca comes back to $13,200 to Tara & Scott's $7400 and Scott's $7200. Wagering will prove to be a factor.

Final Jeopardy! in "20th Century Names": in 2012 her picture replaced that of Julio Argentino Roca on a currency note. Correct response: who was Eva Peron?

By virtue of her win yesterday, Rebecca will return for the TOC, but does she join the $100K club tonight? YES! With the correct response, she takes another $15,000, giving her $101,600 for five.

Agnes Biskup (Chicago, IL) has $7,500 through 3 questions to begin this one. She has all 3 lifelines still available. She jumps the 5th question, which had $15,000. She also jumps the 8th, which had $10,000. She then makes it out of Round 1 with a total of $43,600! On to Round 2...

[$100,000]
One of the earliest "aphrodisiacs" was a brew made from the brain of what animal that Greek goddess Aphrodite found sacred?
A: Cobra
B: Ram
C: Sparrow
D: Mongoose

Agnes says she knows a few things about Aphrodite. She can't see A or B being associated with her, and she can't see D in Greece. That would leave C. Still, she asks the audience, and 50% say B, with 23% saying C, 19% saying A, and just 8% saying D. She decides to trust the audience, going with B... but it's C! Ouch. Well, at least she has $25,000!

Megan Owens (West Chester, PA) - Registered nurse
She works in assisted living. She jumps the 3rd question, leaping over $1,000. She has $15,000 going into this...

[Q5 - American Weather]
A lack of mountain ranges to block cool air from the north and warm air from the south is one reason why the U.S. leads the world in what?
A: Tornadoes
B: Wildfires
C: Blizzards
D: Earthquakes

Megan feels that the winds would have a lot to do with both A and B. She asks the audience, and 77% say A. She goes with that, and they're right, giving her... $7,000 more for a total of $22,000! She then jumps the 7th, which had $15,000. She sees this with $22,500 in her bank...

[Q8 - Us vs. Them]
Legend suggests that the word "mafia" began as a medieval acronym for a Sicilian battle cry used against what group of people?
A: Moors
B: Anglicans
C: Iberians
D: French

Because she doesn't know this, Megan walks with $11,250! As for the answer, it's D.
